Role: Lead Designer
Concept: Sony CDextra based on album materials featuring interviews, lyric-syncing, a photo slide show, a Gloria morph-through-the-years video, and backstage footage of making the music video for the song Reach.
IMG 1: The main interface cycles through images of Gloria Estefan while corresponding section titles appear one by one. The user chooses a section when it appears by clicking on the picture or text. Gloria's scarf floats around the room and on and off the screen as an added graphic element (shown floating at bottom).
IMG 2: "Lyric-syncing" for the song Reach. A line of lyrics highlights as the corresponding lyric is played using the song audio from the CD. Clicking on a lyric jumps the CD audio to that lyric line of the song (syncing code created by a programming partner).
IMG 3: Gloria Estefan has had many looks in her long and storied career, so I created a section showing images of the artist through the years, morphing into one another in chronological order. Songs representing each era fade into one another as the images change. As each image resolves, type appears showing the year, album, and song title that plays in the background.
IMG 4: I created an illustration of a slide projector as the interface for this photo slide show section. The user clicks the up or down arrows on the controller to view press photos and personal photos provided by Gloria Estefan herself.
IMG 5: Gloria Estefan recorded exclusive video interviews for use in this project. Subjects included career highlights, experiences with studio recording, and explanations of different rhythmic forms in Latin music and how she uses them in her songwriting. The videos are masked to make them appear to play inside an old-fashioned tv.
IMG 6: I compiled behind the scenes footage from the music video for Reach, featuring clips that show the filming process. Video excerpts fade in, play, and fade out. A mask created from the background image is combined with the video, giving it soft edges.
